Passage
I first wrote this editorial almost a decade ago when my children had graduated
from college. My daughter is now a pediatric intensive care nurse and my son
works for MeadWestvaco in supply chain management. I have since been blessed
with the birth of my first grandson who will celebrate his first birthday this
September. I am doubly blessed to have a magnificent wife, Cheri Elliott. She also
has two wonderful children who each have a lovely grandchild, ages three and nine. Read more. |

Rejuvenation: ”Death Is Not the Enemy; Joy Is the Goal”
“For many Americans, the idea of rejuvenation is an endless chase for the Holy Grail so
that they may stay young forever,” notes Dr. Mark McClure of Landmark Urology and
Complementary Medicine.
“But for me, and for many of my patients, the issue is not to stay young forever, it is to
live life fully each day and accept each day as a gift. We focus our energy on seeing
what we can do every moment of every day to maximize our joy. Together, we realize
that death is not the enemy. Our goal is to learn how to make natural transitions through
the cycles of life, and thoroughly enjoy what each cycle has to offer. Together, we
explore the simple truth that it is pointless to live in the future, since the only time we
have available to us is right now.” Read more. |

Dutasteride (Avodart) reduces the risk of prostate cancer
Researchers recently reported that Dutasteride (Avodart) reduces the risk of prostate cancer by 23%. Furthermore, dutasteride decreases the incidence of high grade cancers. The Reduction by Dutasteride of Prostate Cancer Events (REDUCE) trial involved 8,200 men ages 50 to 75 from 250 sites in 42 countries. Dutasteride is routinely used to treat men with symptomatic prostate enlargement. The most common adverse events associated with Dutasteride included decreased libido, loss of libido, erectile dysfunction, decreased semen volume, and gynecomastia.

The Circle of Life
By Mark McClure, MD
Medical Editor
A lot was going on in 1981. IBM launched the first personal computer,
NASA launched the first space shuttle, and I launched my career as a
private practice urologist. Cheri and I are delighted to welcome a new
associate, Dr. Daniel Ian McRackan, who will lift his urology career
off the launching pad this month. Dan lags my debut by a year. I was
29 years old when I joined a three-man urology practice in Chester
County, Pennsylvania. During my interview, the oldest partner, who
was 60 years old at the time, quipped to his younger colleagues, who
were 55 and 45 years of age, that he wasn’t sure they should hire me
because I hadn’t gone through puberty yet. I predict that Dan will
elicit similar comments from a few of our veteran codgers. Read more. |
