Penis Problems - DiagnosisOverview | Diagnosis | Treatment | FAQ Peyronie's Disease Peyronie’s disease usually presents with a painless lump that is incidentally felt in the flaccid penis. More commonly, Peyronie’s disease prompts a visit to the doctor because the scar tissue interferes with intercourse because it causes pain or penile curvature with an erection, or difficulty achieving an erection. Although a variety of treatments are available, there isn’t a cure for Peyronie’s disease. If the lump doesn’t cause a problem with erections or prevent normal intercourse, nothing further is necessary. Spontaneous regression and disappearance of Peyronie's disease and all of the symptoms occasionally occurs in 10% of patients (10%). Penile Cancer The appearance of penile cancer varies. Penile cancer, which is almost always a squammous cell cancer, can involve the foreskin or the head, shaft or base of the penis. The lesion may appear as a patchy reddened area that is swollen and fails to heal or it may be flat or have a beefy appearance. There may be drainage from the lesion, especially if it is infected or if it is located beneath penile foreskin that can’t be retracted. It is usually not painful. Any lesion of the penis that fails to heal should prompt medical evaluation. A biopsy is necessary to diagnose penile cancer.
