Urology at Landmark Urology and Complementary Medicine

Urology is a branch of medicine concerned with the structure, function, and disorders of the urinary tract in both males and females.

Urology is thus concerned with the study of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra in members of both sexes, and with the testes, epididymis, prostate gland, seminal vesicles, and penis in males.

In their practice, Dr. McClure, Dr. McRackan, and Cheri Elliott, ANP, devote a great deal of time and energy to investigating and treating urological problems such as urinary incontinence (involuntary leakage of urine), cystitis (bladder infection), urine retention, urinary tract infection, calculi (stones), and bladder tumors. In men, they also diagnose and treat problems related to the prostate gland, testes, and penis.

As diagnosticians, there are many tools available to them, including cystocopy where they use a special instrument to look inside the bladder and urethra, ultrasound scanning to image the prostate and bladder, urodynamic testing to evaluate the cause of urinary problems, such as incontinence and obstruction, and urinalysis. They use all of the tools medicine has to offer when it is in the best interest of their patients to do so. At the same time, they incorporate complementary approaches that encourage and facilitate the body's own natural ability to heal.

As urologists, Dr. McClure and Dr. McRackan are also surgeons, as is true of most of their colleagues. And so they offer each of their patients, dpending on their needs, a “three -legged stool" approach to promoting their good health: strong training as allopathic physicians, a commitment to consider complementary approaches with a proven track record, and surgery when required and appropriate, for a range of disorders.

Dr. McClure, Dr. McRackan and Cheri Elliott, ANP, work together to offer their patients state-of-the-art urologic care.
